Schools aim to inspire more students to college

Darrell Walker is one of the lucky ones. And he knows it.

He surveys a room filled with fellow Kansas City, Kan., School District students who, like him, come from families with little or no history of college.

They just earned three credit hours in pre-engineering in a summer institute at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

“We are intelligent and blessed,” he says with a sweeping smile.
